ISON aims to facilitate a shared approach to tackling obstacles and enable rapid knowledge sharing and deployment of best practices and innovations to support the global network towards the renewable energy transition
ISON (the International System Operator Network) comprises six System Operators: AEMO (Australia), CAISO (California), EirGrid (Ireland), Energinet (Denmark), ERCOT (Texas), and NESO (Great Britain).
The network focuses collectively on developing practical, real-world solutions to enable the operation of reliable, secure, and high-renewable power systems.
ISON is guided by the Chief Executive Officers of the System Operators and supported by technical designates from each System Operator organisation.
The System Operators aim to facilitate a shared approach to tackling obstacles and enable rapid knowledge sharing and deployment of best practices and innovations.
In support of this mission, ISON is actively engaging in key research partnerships, including universities and research agencies, to support the global network towards the renewable energy transition.
ISON published the first System Operator Priorities report and the associated appendix in 2025 to present the aligned goals and development opportunities for AEMO, CAISO, EirGrid, ERCOT, Energinet, and NESO in accelerating the transition to 100% renewable operation. The reports are updated annually to reflect emerging challenges in the energy transitions.
ISON prioritises knowledge sharing between system operators to enable the identification of further collaboration opportunities and to facilitate peer-to-peer learning.
